Master Classes

‘Writing Series TV Drama’

This Master Class is adaptable for Sixth Formers, Media and Creative Writing Students in Further Education, through to Writers’ Groups and adult professionals.

I draw on my experience of writing on some of the most popular shows of the last decade, explaining how these shows are made and focussing on the writer’s role.   I then take students through a real episode of a real show I’ve worked on, and set tasks as if you were the commissioned writer.  As well as gaining fascinating insight, students learn to negotiate in groups, work to a brief, analyse language, dialogue and text, develop themes, character and story, and to write and to lay out a script to a professional standard.

The intensity of work and depth of analysis can be set at a level appropriate to individuals in the group, and to the time and resources available.   Clearly identifying learning targets for individuals in advance will help your students get the most out of this experience, especially if time and resources can be set aside for refining and completing written tasks after the initial contact.
